The experience and expertise we have gained working with electric and water utilities in Water Networks and Electrical Distribution Modernization programs can help you plan and successfully implement your Smart Grid initiative.

Aligning Your Business with Available Technologies

Strategic direction and technology blueprint for Smart Grid programs vary in electrical and Water/Waste water utilities and are sensitive to their asset mix, geography, customer demographics, and regulatory environment. Identifying business objectives for your Smart Grid project and identifying the optimal vendor and technology diversity to reach those objectives represent the dominant challenges in launching this transformational initiative. Combining these objectives with the utility’s architectural and business ecosystem (e.g. existing technology mix, corporate directives such as Demand Management or Volt-Var Optimization in electric utilities, and network hydraulic modeling in water/Waste Water utilities) then becomes crucial to attain the maximum return on your grid modernization investment. Aligning technology offerings that work with your current enterprise technology systems and business workflows help reach the business objectives and are most likely to be adopted by your key control room and field personnel.

Some of the key considerations taken into most Smart Grid initiatives include:

  1. Integrated storage and renewable energy generation,
  2. Modernize hardware to include intelligent feeder and station assets,
  3. Operational efficiencies,
  4. Consumer engagement

And with the availability of Off the Shelf tools such as Distribution Management System (DMS), Outage Management System (OMS), Demand Response (DR) technologies and business directives to improve reliability and operations, Smart Grid projects are increasingly becoming the centerpiece of utility modernization mandates. Similar Smart Grid programs are also being applied to other foundational industries such as water networks.

InfraGrid understands utilities aiming to optimize their business and the frequent challenges the industry encounters in delivering complex transformational programs. Our consultants have a track record of partnering with utilities and achieving maximum returns by delivering solutions that directly fill the gap. Our track record depicts the expertise we have gained working with electric and water utilities in Water Networks and Electrical Distribution Modernization programs.

Focus on User Adoption

Most recently, in Canada, we worked with one of the largest electrical T&D utilities to help define their Smart Grid vision and roadmap. We then worked with this utility to select the right, software, DMS technology, and systems integration components to deliver their vision. Our partnership resulted in successful deployment of Advanced DMS in their control room. Our consultants have also worked with one of the largest Electrical T&D and Water Network utility in the Gulf region where a complete water network and electrical distribution model was built in GIS. We then integrated the electrical network model to deploy this network into their DMS and delivered a completely calibrated Water Hydraulic analysis model built from the GIS data.
